BEFORE PRODUCTION · CHOOSE THE PATH THAT APPLIES TO YOU
Private release or author-published release?
First, clarify who wrote the songs and who is releasing the record. Paying for the pressing yourself does not automatically make it an author-published release. The documents and steps for both procedures are listed separately below.
01 · OWN SONGS, OWN RELEASE
Author-published release (szerzői kiadás)
Choose this path if every work is your own composition, performed by you and released by the authors themselves, without an outside publisher.
- Every author involved signs the declaration.
- No work by an author represented by a foreign collecting society.
- No mechanical royalty payment, but there is a registration fee.
Example: the band releases only songs written by its members, and every author takes part in the release.
Steps for an author-published release ↓02 · PUBLISHER PROCEDURE
Private release (magánkiadás)
Choose this path if the record includes a song by another author, a label releases it, or the conditions for an author-published release are not met.
- It can include works by you and by other authors.
- The procedure starts with a track list (műsortükör).
- Artisjus sets the royalty based on the data and its tariff.
Example: your album includes a cover, or a label handles the release.
Steps for a private release ↓Not sure? Having several authors does not in itself rule out an author-published release. With mixed rights, a foreign rights manager or a cover version, ask Artisjus to classify your release before filling in any form. 01 · Author-published release – what to do
Your main document: the registration declaration for author-published releases. This procedure does not start with the M1 contract used for private releases.
Official Artisjus form (in Hungarian) that can be filled in on a computer. Current originals and other forms ↗
- Register the works. Registering the songs with Artisjus and licensing the release are separate matters. Have the ISRC codes of all recordings ready as well. Work registration ↗
- Fill in the declaration and have it signed. Every author involved must sign. Send the original to the Authors’ Relations Department (Szerzői Kapcsolatok Osztálya).
- Pay the registration fee. According to the current information it is HUF 5,000 + VAT. Mark the payment method on the declaration.
- Wait for the licence. The invoice issued once the fee arrives also serves as the licence to duplicate. Forward it to Hanaton.
- After release, send one copy to Artisjus. It goes to the Private Copying and Mechanical Rights Department, within 30 days of the licence. If production takes longer, agree the deadline with them.

02 · Private release – what to do
Your first document: the track list (műsortükör). Finalise the contract type after Artisjus has checked it.
Start with this: filled in on a computer and, in the first round, sent unsigned.
M1 publishing contract · Word ↓The contract is needed for the step after the consultation. Current contract templates ↗
- Send the track list as an Excel file. Give the details of the works, authors and release, the ISRC code of every recording and the planned number of copies.
- Wait for the check. Add any missing data they ask for. Artisjus will tell you which contract you need.
- Send in the original documents. They ask for two signed originals each of the final track list and the appropriate contract. You can also email them in advance.
- Pay the royalty set by Artisjus. Artisjus will notify you of the amount; it depends on the planned number of copies and the current tariff.
- Forward the manufacturing licence you receive to Hanaton. The licence covers the stated number of copies. Artisjus estimates 10 working days for processing.

Send the licensing document for the release and number of copies, together with the rights declaration for material delivery, to info@hanaton.hu , stating the artist and album name. Send anything meant for Artisjus directly to Artisjus.

Later reporting and separate permissions
The The Excel form for sales reporting ↓ relates to later royalty distribution; it is not a substitute for the manufacturing application. Artisjus forms and information ↗
Also clarify performers’ and sound recording rights, and any separate permissions needed for arrangements, translations or samples. The right to use artwork and photos is a separate question too. Artisjus: FAQ ↗
